SK Conference President calls for reversal of provincial budget cuts to spiritual care

Saskatchewan Conference President Rev. Krystal Sheremeta recently wrote to Premier Brad Wall to express concern about the provincial budget cuts to the spiritual care program and practitioners who work in care homes and hospitals throughout the province.

The President takes particular note of “…the benefits of Spiritual Care being offered to the residents of Saskatchewan, especially at a time when many are at their most vulnerable”, adding, “… We trust that our government will support the residents of Saskatchewan, especially when they are at their most vulnerable. In that regard, it would be both the financially prudent and responsible decision for you to reverse this budgetary decision. It would also continue to provide the best care for the citizens of Saskatchewan, which is the ultimate concern for all of us.”

Please read her letter and share it widely: Letter calling for reversal of provincial spiritual care cuts- SK Conference president. (PDF)

In addition, spiritual care practitioners and United Church members affiliated with hospitals have drafted talking points, a petition, and a sample letter. Please consider using these as part of a faithful response to the wide range of very damaging cuts set out in the March 2017 provincial budget:
